About DIPA

Documenting the Beauty in Decay and Renewal

The Detroit Institute of Post-Industrial Aesthetics (DIPA) was founded in 2016 as a response to the evolving landscape of Detroit and other post-industrial cities. Our mission is to document, analyze, and celebrate the aesthetic transformations occurring in these urban environments.

Through interdisciplinary research, artistic exploration, and community engagement, we seek to understand how abandoned factories, decaying infrastructure, and revitalized neighborhoods tell stories of economic shifts, cultural resilience, and urban regeneration.

Our work bridges the gap between academic research and public appreciation, making the complex narratives of post-industrial cities accessible to all.
